About the Club
Over one hundred years of village cricket in the English Midlands.
A century of cricket
Hartsfield Cricket Club was founded in the spring of 1923 by a group of local farmhands and tradesmen who fancied a game on Sunday afternoons. They commandeered a meadow behind the village pub, rolled the pitch with a borrowed horse roller, and played their first match against neighbouring Bramley Green that June. They lost by 84 runs, but the club was born.
Through the decades, the club grew steadily. A proper square was laid in 1948. The first timber pavilion went up in 1952 -- funded by a village fete that raised the princely sum of 47 pounds. Promotion to Division One came in 1967, and for a glorious three-season stretch in the early seventies, Hartsfield were league champions. The current pavilion was built in 1985, with proper changing rooms, a kitchen, and a bar that has been the scene of many a memorable evening since.
In 2023, the club celebrated its centenary with a week of cricket, a gala dinner in the pavilion, and a match against an invitational XI captained by a former county player who had once turned out for the 2nd XI as a teenager. Over 200 current and former members attended. It was a reminder of what the club has always been: a place where the village comes together, week after week, season after season.
