Every name on our register has been visited, vetted and admitted by a panel of their peers. Search makers across 45 disciplines, from the Highlands to Cornwall.

What the Guild mark means

A mark you have to earn, and keep.

Anyone can call themselves a craftsperson. Since 1987 the Guild has existed to tell customers which ones have been checked — by workshop visit, by portfolio review, and by a panel of makers working in the same discipline. Membership is reassessed every three years.

    Assessed in person

    A Guild assessor visits the workshop, reviews finished work in the hand, and confirms the maker does the work themselves.

  2. 02

    Judged by peers

    Applications are decided by a panel of established members working in the same craft — not by staff, and never by fee.

  3. 03

    Held to a standard

    Members carry the Guild mark on their work and marketing. Complaints are investigated, and the mark can be withdrawn.

  4. 04

    Backed by a chapter

    Twelve regional chapters run workshops, shared training and a formal mentorship route for makers early in their careers.

Apply for the Guild mark

Applications open twice a year. You will need three years of trading, a portfolio of finished work, and a workshop we can visit. Assessment takes around eight weeks.
