Rooftop Terrace

A converted warehouse flat with a roof terrace overlooking the Severn. Exposed to wind from the west, baked by sun in the afternoon, and structurally limited by what the roof could carry. The clients wanted greenery and somewhere to entertain.
We worked with the structural engineer on weight loads, built lightweight raised beds in cedar, and chose plants that could cope with the conditions: olive trees, rosemary, lavender, sea hollies, grasses. A pergola in galvanised steel provides shelter and somewhere for jasmine to climb. Three years on, it’s thriving.
