A working kitchen garden for a family in Hanbury who wanted to grow a meaningful proportion of their own veg. Two-thirds of an acre, south-facing, with chickens at one end and a small orchard at the other.
We built six oak-edged raised beds on a four-bed rotation, a fruit cage, two cold frames, and a small lean-to greenhouse against the south-facing wall of an outbuilding. The beds went in over a single autumn and the family have been growing in them ever since — the chickens approve too.
